The Chickens Are Coming Home

In a Sunday morning sermon in mid-September, 2001, Barack Obama’s spiritual mentor, The Reverend Jeremiah Wright, said, “We bombed Hiroshima, we bombed Nagasaki, and we nuked far more than the thousands in New York and the Pentagon, and we never batted an eye.  We have supported state terrorism against the Palestinians and black South Africans, and now we are indignant because the stuff we have done overseas is now brought right back to our own front yards.  America’s chickens are coming home to roost.”

Yes, the chickens are packing their bags and getting ready to travel, but not for the reason expressed by Rev. Wright.  America’s chickens are coming home to roost because, since the earliest days of the civil rights movement, liberals and Democrats have set the black community up for a major fall.  Those who pay attention to current events and political developments know that at least half a dozen fuses of racial discord have already been lit, or are about to be lit, and that the explosive potential of those fuses now threatens all of the progress we’ve made toward a color blind society.

The first fuse was the killing of a black teenager, Trayvon Martin, by a neighborhood watch captain in Sanford, Florida, in February 2012.  Martin was walking through a gated community, reportedly on his way home from a local convenience store, when he was spotted by community watch coordinator, George Zimmerman.  Since the community had recently been victimized by a series of break-ins, Zimmerman telephoned 911 to report the presence of a suspicious character in the neighborhood.

Although it is not known exactly what caused the two men to confront each other face-to-face, eyewitnesses have testified that, just minutes later, Zimmerman was flat on his back with Martin on top of him, beating him with repeated blows to the face and head and pounding his head against a concrete sidewalk.  In response, Zimmerman drew a handgun and shot Martin to death.

Will prosecutors be able to prove that Zimmerman acted with “malicious intent,” the standard that must be met to prove 2nd degree murder?  Unless the state can prove that Zimmerman purposely threw himself onto his back, bashed his own head against the sidewalk, and invited Martin to straddle him and beat him… making deadly force necessary… it is highly unlikely that prosecutors will be able to win a conviction.  And when Zimmerman is found not guilty of 2nd degree murder, a powder keg of racial resentment is bound to explode.  Troublemakers in the black community, already seething with anger and hatred, are just waiting for that day to arrive.

Since the day of the Trayvon Martin killing, numerous incidents have been reported in cities across the country in which young black assailants have indiscriminately attacked white victims.  In many instances the assailants were heard to express rage over the Trayvon Martin killing.

A second fuse was lit in Norfolk, Virginia, on April 14, 2012, when two young reporters for the Virginia-Pilot newspaper, David Forster and Marjon Rostami, were stopped at an intersection, waiting for a green light.  They were spotted by a mob of some 30 black teenagers on the street corner, and when one of the black teens threw a rock at the passenger-side window of Forster’s car he stepped from his car to protest.  He was attacked and beaten, and when Ms. Rostami attempted to pull Forster back into the car, she too was attacked and beaten.

It was not until Bill O’Reilly, of Fox News, reported the story that local officials began to make arrests.  To date, at least four black teens, three 16-year-olds and a 13-year-old, have been arrested and charged with simple assault and riot.  However, as more of the violent street thugs are identified and arrested, we can expect to see the Norfolk fuse burn to the exploding point.

Several other fuses are burning toward the exploding point in Washington.  At some point during the month of June, the U.S. Supreme Court will hand down its decision on the constitutionality of Obamacare.  It is widely expected that Obama’s singular legislative accomplishment will be struck down by a 5-4 decision, with Justices Roberts, Alito, Scalia, Kennedy, and Thomas in the majority and the four liberals, Breyer, Ginsburg, Kagan, and Sotomayor in the minority, although a 6-3 decision, with Justice Breyer joining the majority, is still within the realm of possibility.

A defeat of that magnitude in the Supreme Court will be seen by many in the black community as a repudiation of the first black president in history.  They will see it, not as a clear decision upholding states’ rights under the 10th Amendment, but as a racist affront based solely on the color of Obama’s skin.  When that happens, another fuse of racial discord will be lit.

In addition, a number of fuses have been lit by Obama’s attorney general, Eric Holder, the most incompetent and the most corrupt man ever to serve as the top law enforcement official in the country.  When Holder is held in contempt of Congress for failure to provide the documents necessary to a congressional investigation of the Justice Department’s Fast and Furious arms trafficking debacle, millions of black Americans… already inflamed because of the Trayvon Martin and Norfolk, Virginia cases… will be further enraged and yet another fuse will be lit.

Weeks later, when the U.S. Supreme Court hands Holder another major defeat, upholding the right of Arizona law enforcement officials to determine the immigration status of those they question in connection with unrelated law enforcement matters, Holder can be expected to play the race card in his own defense, lighting yet another fuse of racial discontent.  Millions of black Americans, looking for an excuse to justify their growing rage, will see the court’s decision not as a matter of states’ rights, but as disrespect for the country’s first black attorney general.

When the high court hands down its decision supporting the right of the states to require voters to show a government-issued photo ID before being allowed to vote, Democrats are certain to charge racism, claiming that millions of their black constituents are too incompetent to obtain a photo ID.  When that happens, yet another fuse of racial discord will be lit.

And finally, when Barack Obama is soundly defeated for reelection in November, in what could be a defeat of landslide proportions, millions of black Americans will see it, not as a repudiation of his failures as a leader, not as a reaction to his overwhelming incompetence, but as a black man being fired because of the color of his skin.  They will fail to understand that Obama was elected because of the color of his skin and that he was fired because he was incompetent.

Few blacks will understand that, while the country had arrived at a point where whites would elect a black president, Barack Obama was the wrong man for that job.  When Obama is defeated, the final fuse of racial discord will be lit and race relations in America will be set back at least sixty years.

Since the close of World War II, Democrats have been best characterized by their ability to create governing majorities by preying upon the “victimhood” of diverse special interests… blue collar workers, farmers, public employees, teachers, trial lawyers, gays, lesbians, etc., etc., but especially racial minorities.  Through decades of dominance of federal and state government, Democrats have produced a welfare state with a permanent underclass of minority citizens where two out of three children are born out of wedlock, and where government-subsidized housing developments have become not only the nation’s most expensive high-rise slums, but, literally, the most dangerous places on the face of the Earth.

In doing so, Democrats have created a level of expectation among blacks that has kept them on the edge of their seats for generations, always expecting that the “goodies” were about to drop into their laps when, of course, there were never any free “goodies” to be had.  And when the quality of public education, poisoned by the unionization of the teaching profession, served to deny the American Dream to generations of blacks, the black community was infected with a smothering sense of hopelessness… and rage.

From the mid-1960s until the present day, Democrats have worked tirelessly toward enslaving black Americans in political and economic serfdom, using the agencies of government and the taxpayers’ resources, in combination with an appeal to the darker side of human nature, to enslave them in a never ending cycle of poverty, dependency, hopelessness, and victimhood.  And when taxpayers questioned whether a black family should be allowed to live off the public dole while an able-bodied man was living in the household, Democrats produced eligibility rules that forced black men out of their homes… destroying the black family unit and causing millions of black children to be raised without the influence of a father-figure in their home.

In the history of man’s inhumanity to man, the destruction of the black family unit in America ranks among the cruelest of the cruel.  And now, as we live with the results of decades of black victimhood imposed by liberals and Democrats, we are left to wonder where we might find the wise black leaders with the capacity to defuse a potential national nightmare.  If, in fact, our “chickens are coming home to roost” because of the unmet expectations of young blacks, we will know where to place the blame, but placing blame will be of little solace to a nation with a broken heart.
