It is impossible to overstate the importance of cable television news, particularly Fox News, and the alternative media. In the absence of these information sources, many stories that are now part of the political equation for the November elections would have remained hidden beneath an impenetrable cloak of secrecy. Limited to the news discretion of the mainstream media, voters would now be completely ignorant of the implosion and unraveling of the Democrat Party.
One example of the current state of mind of rank-and-file Democrats is an unsigned newspaper article sent to me by my rabid Democrat sister in Missouri, with whom I’ve had an undeclared political truce for several years. The article rehashed all of the old tired and worn out charges against George W. Bush that Democrats concocted to gain control of the Congress in 2006 and the White House in 2008. The author even went so far as to hang the 9/11 attack around Bush’s neck, saying, “He was the guy who was minding the store when our nation experienced its biggest terrorist attack (on) Sept. 11, 2001.” The email was followed by a terse instruction from my sibling, saying, “The truth is the truth. Accept it.”
I recognized the email immediately for what it was. It was a cry of undisguised anguish from a committed Democrat who looked into the future and saw her party taking an unprecedented drubbing at the polls… a fall from grace that, hopefully, will last for generations. It was a cry of rage from a partisan Democrat who… having bought into all the yellow propaganda emanating from union halls over many years… knows in her own heart that her party is about to receive its just deserts and who needed a convenient target on whom to inflict her seething anger. But she is just one of the millions of enraged “little people,” the Democratic rank-and-file, who, while totally oblivious to the foreign ideology that is the basis of their party, nevertheless remain totally dedicated to it. The top leaders and elected officials of the party are also in panic mode.
In California’s 47th Congressional District, incumbent Democrat Loretta Sanchez (who stole the seat from Republican Robert Dornan in 1996 with the help of several thousand votes from illegal aliens) is challenged by Republican Assemblyman Van Tran. In a speech before a Hispanic audience, Sanchez said, “The Vietnamese and the Republicans are, with an intensity, (trying) to take this seat – this seat (from which) we have done so much for our community – to take this seat and give it to this Van Tran, who is very anti-immigrant and very anti-Hispanic.”
According to the Orange County Register, “Tran himself is an immigrant, having escaped Vietnam with his family shortly before the fall of Saigon…” The Sanchez remark, which strongly implies that the 47th C.D. should be dedicated forever to a Hispanic, is now causing rumbles across the nation for Democrats who represent districts with large non-Hispanic ethnic populations. Sanchez currently leads Tran by only one or two points.
In the 22nd District of Florida, two-term Democrat Ron Klein is being challenged by Lt. Col. Allen West (USA, Ret.), a solid conservative black Republican. On a recent Friday, West returned home from a day of campaigning to find his wife and two daughters highly agitated. They had just learned that his opponent had caused his Social Security number to be distributed to thousands of homes across Broward and Palm Beach Counties.
In a region of the country with the greatest incidence of identity theft, West and his family are now threatened with having their lives turned upside-down. They are now engaged in the difficult and time-consuming process of requesting new Social Security numbers. It is one more example of how Democrats react when they feel threatened.
In the 8th District of Florida, congressman Alan Grayson, the “attack dog” of the Democrat Party, is being challenged by former Florida state legislator Daniel Webster, a fundamentalist Christian, a strong supporter of home-schooling, and an opponent of gay marriage. The National Republican Congressional Committee has named Grayson their number one target for 2010.
One of Grayson’s most dedicated opponents is a woman named Angie Langley, who oversees a popular website called MyCongressmanIsNuts.com. In retaliation, and out of a sense of either panic or sheer madness, Grayson has written to Attorney General Eric Holder asking that Langley be fined and imprisoned for exercising her 1st Amendment rights.
In Washington, DC, Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton is causing Democrats a great deal of heartburn following her ham-handed attempt to wring campaign cash out of a K Street lobbyist.
After being forced into an unfamiliar fundraising role by Speaker Nancy Pelosi (Holmes Norton rarely has any meaningful Republican opposition in her heavily Democrat district) Holmes Norton began making phone calls to the lobbyists on her list.
Her ham-handed pitch, which would have been unworthy of even the greenest freshman, reminded one particular target that he had contributed to other Democrats on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. She reminded him that she was a senior member, Chairman of the Subcommittee on Economic Development, Public Buildings, and Emergency Management. Then she said, “I was, frankly, uh, uh, surprised that we don’t have a record, so far as I can tell, of your having given to me despite my, uh, long and deep, uh, work. In fact, it’s been my major work, uh, on the committee and subcommittee it’s been essentially in your sector…”
Ms. Holmes Norton’s pitch would have gone unnoticed, except for the fact that she left it on the lobbyist’s answering machine while he was away from his office. A quick review of the message turns up at least two major violations of federal law and two violations of House Ethics Rules. More importantly, it is indicative of the panic that is now rampant among Democrats.
Elsewhere in Washington, the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights is conducting hearings on complaints that the Obama Justice Department is failing to apply the law equally to minority and white Americans. In spite of being ordered by his Justice Department superiors NOT to testify before the Commission, former head of the DOJ Voting Rights Section, Christopher Coates, testified that there exists within the Department a hostility toward race-neutral enforcement of the Voting Rights Act. This hostility became clear to him while pursuing a 2005 Mississippi case in which white voters were the victims of intimidation. He said some DOJ employees refused to work on the case, which had drawn criticism from civil rights groups. He said, “The election of President Obama allowed those most opposed to ‘race-neutral enforcement’ to move into leadership positions against the Civil Rights Division. One of those officials, then-acting Assistant Attorney General Loretta King, ordered the dismissal of the New Black Panther case.”
Just weeks before the midterm elections, Democrats cannot be pleased to hear sworn testimony showing that the Obama Administration purposely stands against equal protection of the law.
In Detroit, on ten consecutive days, a reporter for the local Fox affiliate filmed UAW workers from Chrysler’s Jefferson North assembly plant smoking pot and boozing it up during their lunch break. When approached by the reporter and camera crew the workers quickly jumped into their Ford automobiles and sped away. All twelve of the miscreants have been identified and fired.
This is the same Chrysler plant where Obama told workers on July 30, “Now, I have to tell you some of you saw me drive a (Chevrolet) Volt about 12 inches… But the Cadillac that I drive in is made right here…” (Imagine if George Bush had thought, mistakenly, that he was speaking at a General Motors plant.) He said, “We are back on our feet. We are on the move. GM is on the move. The U.S. auto industry is on the move. And America is on the move, and I’m not going to rest until every single American worker who wants to get back to work is going to be back to work.” (Does that mean that the pot-smoking boozers will get their jobs back, with back pay?)
As more and more Americans see auto workers… whose jobs and pensions were saved by a $7 billion taxpayer-funded Chrysler bailout in early 2009… smoking pot and drinking beer during working hours, they’re not going to be happy. They’re going to tie the auto workers’ excesses to the excesses of Obama and a Democratic Congress. After the November elections Obama may be out in the parking lot holding yet another “beer summit” with those boozing auto workers.
Meanwhile, back at the Congressional Black Caucus, there’s more trouble for Democrats. After weeks of revelations by the House Ethics Committee regarding numerous ethical and criminal infractions by Cong. Charles Rangel (D-NY) and Cong. Maxine Waters (D-CA), congressional blacks complained that the House Ethics Committee, controlled by Democrats, appeared to be focusing on the misdeeds of black members. Their complaints were lodged just in time to learn that Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-TX) had arranged Congressional Black Caucus scholarships for members of her family, a direct violation of House Ethics Rules.
And then, just days after a minor brawl between Sharron Angle and Harry Reid supporters at a Las Vegas debate… a precursor of the sort of violence that we can expect to see in the weeks ahead as Democrats allow their frustrations to boil over… we’re treated to an appearance by late night comic Stephen Colbert, before the House Subcommittee on Immigration, Citizenship, Refugees, Border Security and International Law.
Not only was Colbert’s “testimony” unfunny, it was totally inappropriate for the setting. In fact, it was just about as funny as an unraveling woolen sweater in the dead of winter… which is what Democrats most resemble at this stage of the game.
